Sugaring and Waxing 

Refine primarily incorporates sugaring to achieve optimal hair removal results. Sugaring is an ancient form of hair removal and is 100% natural, biodegradable, and water-soluble. It is hand applied; therefore, produces less waste. A hypoallergenic hard wax is used for areas, such as the nostrils and ears, that provides fast, smooth results.  

Sugaring is performed by applying a ball of sugar paste against the natural direction of hair growth. Then, in the same direction of hair growth, a method known as “flicking” is used to remove the hair from its root, as well as any dead skin cells. The same ball of sugar continues to be re-applied over and over again until all of the unwanted hair is removed.

Prior to service, make sure your hair is at least ¼-inch to a 1/2-inch long.
If hair isn't long enough, you may have to reschedule.

If you currently…

• Razor/Shave – At least 10-14 days of regrowth.

• Wax – 4 weeks of regrowth.

• Sugar – 4-6 weeks of regrowth.

Sugaring is great for all skin types, especially sensitive skin, while hard wax gives fast, precise results.
 

Prep before your appointment:

• Day of, do not moisturize with creams or lotions on the area/s that will be treated.

• Exfoliate the skin a minimum of 2 days before your appointment. Do not exfoliate the day before, the day of, or the day after.

• Lightly exfoliate with a buffing mitt or washcloth to remove dead skin cells. This will help prevent stray hairs from getting left behind. 

• Do not apply deodorant if getting underarms sugared/waxed.

• Avoid tanning or applying retinoid creams for at least 24 to 48 hours before your appointment.

• The day of, minimize your caffeine and alcohol intake to prevent your pores from tightening.

• Prior to the appointment, dress in loose, cotton clothing for maximum comfort.

Aftercare:
It is vital to exfoliate and hydrate your skin after a sugaring/waxing session to protect against bumps and ingrown hairs.

Here are a few tips to keep your skin looking and feeling great. 
 

• Start exfoliating the skin 3 days after the sugaring/waxing treatment and then every 2-3 days. 

• In order to keep skin hydrated, make sure to moisturize with a lotion or cream that is natural. 

• Do not use a razor to remove hairs in between appointments. As this decreases the benefits of sugaring/waxing.
   

Keep the sugared/waxed area clean and avoid heat and friction during the next 24 to 48 hours.

This includes:

• No super hot baths or showers (cooler/lukewarm water is best).

• No saunas, hot tubs, massage or steam treatments.

• No tanning (sunbathing, sun beds or spray tans).

• Refrain from intense exercise that produces excessive sweating.

• Avoid swimming in highly chlorinated pools.

• Avoid make-up(if face was sugared/waxed).

• Avoid sexual activity(if applies to area sugared/waxed ;)

• Avoid touching or scratching the treated area with unwashed hands.

• Wear clean, loose fitting clothes.

Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products to the area, other than those recommended for aftercare treatment for at least 24-48 hours.
